Help a Child

Organisation Description

Help a Child (HaC) is a Christian, international development organization, founded in 1968 in the Netherlands. HaC provides a future for children in need, their family, and their entire community. By empowering vulnerable communities we help them to change their own living conditions and opportunities in a sustainable way. We work together with various Dutch, international and local partners. HaC Rwanda works across three districts (Bugesera, Rwamagana, and Rusizi) and supports local NGO partners to carry out holistic, community-based interventions. Our interventions are clustered in 5 result areas:

  1. Early childhood development
  2. Basic education
  3. Skills training for youth employment
  4. Community resilience building
  5. Economic development through value chain investment.

Apart from interventions at community level, HaC is also involved in implementing activities at national level aimed at building capacity and strengthening systems related to early childhood development and youth employment. Specifically in the education sector, we implemented a DFID funded Innovations for Education project on Active Learning Methods between 2013-2015. Additionally, from 2016 to date, we have supported the University Rwanda College Education and REB to develop competency based curriculum (CBC) for Teacher Training Colleges (TTC), to align with the CBC recently introduced in primary schools.
