Chance for Childhood has been working in East Africa for over 20 years. We boast a number of multi-disciplinary teams amongst our partners in Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya and we face an expanding project portfolio which focuses specifically on Inclusive Education and Justice for Children and young people.
Rwanda’s programme portfolio focuses on education and inclusion, with a particular focus on children and youth with hearing and communication impairments. Working with a range of partners and funders we launched the Education, Equality and Empowerment project in 2014, which supports children with special learning needs by training teachers to provide inclusive education as well as piloting a scheme of classroom based learning support assistants – the only approach of its kind in Rwanda. We are also working in communities to reduce stigma and improve attitudes towards children and young people with disabilities.
