Akilah Institute

The Akilah Institute (Akilah) is the only institution of higher education dedicated to women in Rwanda. Akilah brings together the most promising candidates from the different districts of Rwanda for an innovative two year program that prepares them for professional careers and leadership roles. The institute offers an accredited Diploma, with a choice of three majors: Hospitality management, Business Management and Entrepreneurship, and Information Systems.

The nurturing environment at Akilah equips women with the tools to foster self-confidence, develop their vision for the future, and ultimtely make a difference in their communitites in Rwanda. Akilah aligns with the development goals of the Rwanda Ministry of Education, and is currently offering competency Based Education (CBE), a hands-on approach to learning that requires students to demonstrate mastery of specific skills and competencies. We’ve also added an Evening & Weekend Program for working professionals and integrated career development services into our curriculum to prepare studetns for the job search.

Currently, Akilah has 500 students enrolled on our Kigali campus. By January 2019, we will have 1000 students in total and are poised for even greater growth in years ahead. Students are selected based on an extensive and rigorous application process. Our goal is to offer the opportunity to outstanding young women from all the different sectors of Rwanda, who have successfully completed their secondary school to benefit from the education offered at Akilah
